Questions about the Kiungo system
What is the Kiungo system?
Kiungo is the system Consumatech is pioneering to build and strengthen the links within communities and between them. Shops, people and devices become points where demand comes in and products and services go out. Combined, that demand becomes buying power: value moves closer to where it starts, and value chains are rebuilt from the bottom up.
Is Kiungo the same as kasiPOS?
No. kasiPOS is how a shop joins. Kiungo is the whole system: shops, people, devices and partners, linked within communities and between them.
Is Kiungo a network?
No. Kiungo is a system: a way of doing things. For it to live, it needs a network of linked shops, people and devices, and platforms that run on it, such as kasiPOS and Kasipages. The network and the platforms together make up the system.
How does Kiungo benefit a community?
It combines a community's demand into buying power, so better prices and more of the value stay closer to the community.
What happens to the data?
Data is aggregated and anonymised, and never sold as individual records.
Who can join?
Anyone can join here, free. Shops join through kasiPOS, new businesses through Kasipages, and partners through the Partner page on consumatech.com.
Where is it live?
Live in South Africa and the DRC; conversations in Nigeria and East Africa.
What happens on 1 January 2030?
We switch the network on, and the Kiungo system comes alive. What communities need and what they can supply becomes visible, and can be matched. Until then, we are gathering the people and communities who will be part of it.
What does joining cost, and what does it commit me to?
Nothing, on both counts. Joining is free. It commits you to nothing. You can leave at any time.
What happens after I join?
We send you the Kiungo newsletter. You get your own link to invite others, and a way into the members' conversation.
Can I leave?
Yes. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link. To have your details removed, write to digitizingafrica@consumatech.com.
Who is behind Kiungo?
Consumatech, an African technology company founded in 2015 and based in Pretoria, South Africa. Kiungo is its flagship idea, and it is meant to be shared.
